Cosmetic Dentistry is the term Dentists use to describe dental treatments and procedures that improve the appearance, but not necessarily the health of your teeth. This basically means that Cosmetic Dental procedures are non-essential, however they do offer an extensive range of personal benefits, including making cleaning easier, improving confidence and even potentially reducing teeth grinding. Many Cosmetic Dentists also work as Orthodontists, who specialise in teeth straightening. The main Cosmetic Dentistry treatments that we provide are explained below:
What is Cosmetic Dentistry?
Improvements in Cosmetic Procedures
Across the whole field of dentistry, modern improvements in Cosmetic Dentistry have made treatment far faster, more effective and now many treatments are also pain free. Modern fun treatments and Laser Teeth Whitening are now painless and also do not require any form of sedation. When we provide complicated treatments, Dental Implants being a good example, we offer sedation and use state-of-the-art equipment that allow us to speed up both the normal treatment and normal recovery times. Specific improvements to the field of Cosmetic Dentistry treatment in particular, mean that getting a perfect smile can now be a pain and anxiety free process.
Confidence & Your Smile
Why is Cosmetic Dentistry growing in popularity? Why do people in ever higher numbers opt to have dental procedures that aren’t necessarily going to improve their overall dental health? The answer is “quality-of-life”. A smile really is worth a thousand words when it comes to self-confidence in your work, a night out with friends / family and of course, a first date. Being confident with your smile makes everything easier. The truth is that it is far easier to smile when you are not embarrassed by stained, crooked, or chipped teeth. An unsightly gap or receding gums can be fixed in almost every case by Cosmetic Dentistry treatments. Beyond hiding or concealing unsightly teeth, Cosmetic Dentistry can help to vastly improve your overall self-confidence and well-being. The main Cosmetic Dentistry procedures that we offer are explained below.
Teeth Whitening Treatments
There are a number of different types of Teeth Whitening procedures available, from bleaching to laser treatments that can lighten your teeth by up to 16 shades. We basically breakdown Teeth Whitening into two broad categories, 1). In-surgery procedures carried out by a Dentist and 2). At-home procedures. For more details on Teeth Whitening offered by 110 Total Dentistry goto our Teeth Whitening page.
Orthodontics (Straightening Teeth)
We offer both traditional braces and modern Invisalign teeth straightening treatments. Depending upon your personal requirements, your dentist will recommend the right treatment approach.
Veneers
Veneers are exactly what you would expect, thin shells of porcelain that are bonded to the front of a tooth to restore it’s appearance. For example in cases where a single tooth or a group of teeth has been discoloured more than others, or as an alternative to orthodontics Veneers will be used. Veneers have improved over time and we are now able to match Veneers precisely to your real teeth colour so no one will ever notice the difference. The treatment requires shaving off a part of your tooth and you should bear in mind that eventually veneers will require replacement or repair as the porcelain does ware away over time.
Crowns & Bridges
Dental bridges fill the space between large gaps between teeth and are not exclusively cosmetic. Bridges are a more affordable and much less invasive procedure than Dental Implants and orthodontics, they help to improve the appearance of teeth and are a much faster treatment option. Crowns in a similar way help to cap and repair chipped / cracked teeth, restoring them to a normal shape. CERAC porcelain crown treatments can be completed in one visit and can also be used sometimes to assist in large fillings.
Implants
In very serious cases of bad tooth decay, or because of injury / age, one or several teeth may need to be replaced. Implant technology has improved over the years and now false teeth can match the rest of your smile for a natural appearance. Implants in modern dentistry have taken the place that dentures used to occupy as the first option when replacing missing teeth. For more information on Implants please visit our Implants page.
Bruxism (Grinding Teeth)
There are a number of different causes which create teeth grinding, or bruxism. Cosmetic procedures are not the only solution to Bruxism, inlays or onlays and teeth straightening treatments cal also help improve your overall bite and this can help limit unconscious teeth grinding.
